What Time Zone is North Cyprus on?
North Cyprus is on Eastern European Summer Time (EEST) all year round at UTC+3. This means the region is in sync with South Cyprus and there’s no time difference between the north and south of the island.
Why Doesn’t North Cyprus Observe Daylight Saving Time?
Daylight Saving Time in North Cyprus has not been observed since 2016. Although traditionally, Daylight Saving Time involves setting clocks forward by 1 hour in spring and back by 1 hour in autumn, North Cyprus no longer follows this practice. In 2016, the region briefly adopted Turkey’s time zone policy and stayed on UTC+3 throughout the winter. During that time, South Cyprus reverted to Eastern European Time (EET), UTC+2, which caused a 1-hour time gap between the two regions. This decision was reversed in October 2017, and since then, North Cyprus has mirrored South Cyprus by maintaining a constant UTC+3, avoiding seasonal time changes.
The elimination of DST was driven by practicality and consistency. While DST aims to extend evening daylight and reduce energy consumption, studies show minimal modern savings and health concerns due to disruptions in sleep patterns. By being on a fixed time all year round North Cyprus avoids these drawbacks and is in sync with the neighbouring regions.
How Is Time Measured and Displayed in Northern Cyprus?

Units of time are hours (e.g. 3 PM), minutes and seconds. Days of the week (e.g. Monday or Friday) follow the international standard.
